Motorbike breakdown cover comes with all the benefits of our standard roadside assistance:
Motorcycle breakdown cover means you can get help for breakdowns if you're over 1/4 mile away from your home. If you want to be covered when close to home, you can add our optional At Home cover.
Once you join us, you won’t miss a trick when it comes to enjoying little extras or unlocking big savings with your Smart Benefits. And they’re all available on our app.
There are 4 main types of breakdown cover, each type is applicable to motorbikes:
You won't need a special policy if you ride a motorbike. Our standard breakdown cover applies to motorcycles, mopeds and scooters too.
We don't cover electric pavement vehicles, electric wheelchairs, push bicycles, electric bicycles or any vehicles that aren't road legal. See the table below for a quick and easy view of what's covered – as long as they're only used for private and domestic purposes (we can't cover you if you're using your vehicle for business purposes).

Looking for car and motorcycle breakdown cover? One policy can cover your motorbike and your car if you hold:
Each of the policies above are types of personal breakdown cover, meaning you're covered no matter which vehicle you're using. If you own a car and a motorcycle, you can choose one of these policies and enjoy peace of mind on the road whether you're on 2 wheels or 4.
You can tailor your level of motorcycle cover with these add-ons:
Our goal is always to get you going again as soon as possible – our recovery tow will only happen if we can’t fix your motorbike on the spot. Whether you have an important event to get to or you’re just out for a casual ride, our level and quality of service doesn't change.
Our breakdown cover won’t just leave you high and dry at the side of the road. All of our standard breakdown cover policies come with Roadside Assistance, meaning we’ll recover your motorcycle with a tow to a nearby garage if further work is needed.
Comparing motorcycle breakdown cover is always a smart move, and it’s down to you to decide what kind of cover you want, whether it’s Vehicle cover or Personal cover. When buying standard breakdown cover with Roadside Assistance, it’s important to look out for the features you’ll be getting with your policy, rather than just siding with the cheapest offer.

Our standard Roadside Assistance for motorbikes will grant you cover for breakdowns in the UK. If you'd like to be covered when you ride your motorbike in Europe, you can buy European breakdown cover.
Our European breakdown cover includes motorbikes, scooters and mopeds just like our UK breakdown cover. It also grants you unique access to over 60,000 repairers and recovery operators across 44 countries, so nothing can get in the way of your two-wheel adventure!
Wondering why you should choose The AA? Here's why we're the best motorcycle breakdown cover provider:
Verify the above at theaa.com/best.
If you’re already a member with us and your motorcycle breaks down, you can report a breakdown online. Alternatively, you can quickly report a breakdown if you already have The AA app installed on your device. We'd recommend doing this as it's even faster than reporting a breakdown online.
If you’re not a member, don’t worry! We’ve got instant breakdown cover too – simply call us on 03330 046 046 and we’ll arrange help from an expert Patrol for you.
These breakdown cover packages all cover 1 vehicle, whoever's driving it. Compare what’s included in each package and choose the one that best suits your needs.

The AA uses a fleet of dedicated vehicles – which means we own and manage them, and they are driven by our own patrols. These include breakdown vans, recovery trucks and other specialist vehicles to support a wide range of breakdown situations our members find themselves in. Sometimes we may use garages to reduce wait times, but only when necessary. We’ll always let you know in advance.
We have more highly skilled mobile mechanics than anyone else. And they’re all absolutely lovely. The AA is the largest UK breakdown provider, with over 2,700 patrols compared to around 1,750 patrols for the second-largest provider in the UK.

Our breakdown cover policy documents give you the terms and conditions of the contracts that make up AA Breakdown Membership and AA Breakdown Repair Cover (Parts and Garage Cover).
They are split into two parts:

AA Breakdown Repair Cover Terms and Conditions Booklet – November 2021
Member Extras Terms and Conditions Booklet – November 2021
There are 3 ways to do this – annually by card or direct debit, or monthly by direct debit.
If you pay annually, you’ll pay up front for a fixed 12-month policy and the overall price for a year will be lower than 12 monthly payments. There’s no refund if you cancel after your 14-day cooling-off period though. You can choose how your policy renews when you set up your cover.
If you pay monthly, your account will be debited every month until your policy is cancelled. This gives you the convenience of paying per month, together with the flexibility of being able to cancel your cover at any time. After the 14-day cooling-off period, you'll just need to give us 30 days' notice.
Yes – we use the highest form of encryption available, to make sure your payment is safe.
Our secure-server software scrambles all the details you enter before they’re sent, so that only we can understand them.
We'll write to you well in advance of your renewal, but if you'd like to talk to someone about renewing or changing your cover now, call us on 0343 316 4444.
Lines are open 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday; 9am to 5pm, Saturday.
If you want to arrange personal cover for someone else, call us on 0330 053 1100. However, if you want to cover a specific vehicle you can buy vehicle cover online.
Yes - If something goes wrong with your bike out on the road, our motorbike breakdown cover can help. Motorbikes are included as standard with our cheap breakdown cover.
Our expert mechanics are fully trained in motorbike repairs. Whether it’s a problem with the drive chain, forks, throttle or something else, we can help to get you going again.
We’ll try to fix your bike on the spot. If it needs more repairs, we’ll take you and your bike to a garage so you won’t be left stranded.
Our breakdown cover includes motorcycles as well as cars, vans, caravans and campervans. You won’t need a special policy for motorcycle breakdown cover.
Both motorbike breakdown cover and car breakdown cover work in exactly the same way.
Plus you can add extras to your policy to cover you at home, to help with onward travel or to recover you to anywhere in the UK.
All of our highly skilled mobile mechanics are fully trained in how to spot common motorcycle problems. And our cutting-edge technology helps us get vehicles going again at the roadside.
Our standard Breakdown Cover doesn’t include parts but you can add Parts and Garage Cover to your policy.
It can:
You're covered for 5 claims per policy year (6 claims if you cover more than 1 vehicle on a joint or family policy).
Each time, you can claim up to £535 worth of repairs (including a £35 excess) – just give us a call before any garage work is started.
You’ll be covered for common vehicle parts like engine and brakes, as well as specific motorcycle parts like the drive chain, sprockets and forks.
Yes - if we can’t fix your motorbike at the roadside, we’ll recover you, your bike and any passengers to the nearest garage.
Or if you have National Recovery, we’ll take you, your bike and any passengers to a single UK mainland destination of your choice.
Most of our vans can carry motorcycles, so you won’t usually have to wait for a recovery truck.
If you have personal cover (including joint and family cover), you’re automatically covered for any vehicle you travel in. That means your motorbike will be included if you have existing personal cover.
If you have vehicle cover, you’ll only be able to cover 1 vehicle. So if your motorbike wasn’t the original vehicle you covered, you won’t be able to add it to a vehicle cover policy.
For Parts and Garage Cover, you can cover up to 4 vehicles on a single policy, as long as they're all registered at the same address.
Motorcycle insurance usually doesn’t include breakdown cover, so it’s best to check with your provider.
If you don’t have cover included with your insurance but you want to receive help from a mechanic if your bike breaks down, you’ll need to take out a separate breakdown cover policy.
Breakdown Cover will only cover you in the UK. But we do have an arrangement with AA Ireland. This means you’ll get an equivalent level of service if you break down there (apart from Parts and Garage Cover, which won't apply).
If you’re driving in Europe, or want extra cover travelling in the Republic of Ireland, you might want European Breakdown Cover. It can give you alternative travel and accommodation costs, legal protection and more.
If you use your motorcycle for business, for example as a bike courier, then Business Breakdown Cover might be the best option for you.
